P.112-113 The Gay ZOO - The popular Gay Slangs inspired by Kingdom Animalia you need to know in 2024

Gay people enjoy naming, we enjoy displaying, and it’s all in good fun. For some reason, the words or names we used are often the terms from the animal kingdom. That's why I call it the zoo.

Gay men wanted to be able to speak in public without revealing their sexuality, especially in the places and times of extreme LGBTQ+ persecution. Thus, the gay lexicon was born. Over the years, gay slang has evolved and it’s sometimes tough to keep up, isn’t it? So, here they are—all the creatures in the queer animal kingdom—fully explained.

Bear (n.) – A larger side of a muscular, beefy, chubby, chunky gay man with normal variation to be a little overweight. They may be older or younger. Their skin may be smooth or hairy, although most of the time they rather don’t shave. And unlike their namesake, they don’t need to hibernate.

Butterfly (n.) - A gay guy who likes to flirt from one guy to another and maybe sleep with all of them.

Bull (n.) - Hunky, muscular bodybuilders who weigh 200+ pounds.

Chicken (n.) –

1. A  muscular guy who trains his upper body intensely but frequently skips leg days, ending up with skinny legs.

2. A little feminine twink.

Chickenhawk (n.) – An older man who sexually pursues younger chickens/twinks

Cub (n.) – A baby bear or a younger bear and heavier otter. They are large, hairy guys in their teens and twenties who are on their way to becoming bears.

Dolphin (n.) - A slender, athletic, hairless bear.

Donald Duck (n.) – A homosexual male who is discharged from the Navy dishonorably because they were caught being gay; see also: “Dishonorable Discharge,” or masturbating solo after an unsuccessful attempt to pick someone up.

Giraffe (n.) –An incredibly tall gay man.

Gym Rat (n.) – A gay man who spends all day at the gym, talking about how he needs to go to the gym, or how he’s coming from the gym.

Lounge lizard (n.) – someone who is always at the bars, trying to pick up other people’s mates.

Otter (n.) – A gay man who is bigger than a twink but thinner and younger than a bear. Any age can be otter. Otters have all different types of facial hair. They may trim their chest hair, but they’ll always leave at least some hair to feel masculine.

Pig (n.) – The most sexual type of gay men. All they think about is sex, pigs love sex more than anything else and are often kinky and filthy seedy.

Pup (n.) – Gay men with kink interest, giving a rather submissive type of dynamic, can act and/or dress up as puppies and desire a handler. The handler treats their 'puppies' with the same love and affection as they would their dogs.

Shrimp (n.) – A gay guy with a well-built muscular body but an unattractive face. They are called ‘shrimp’ because you usually ignore the face and eat the body when you eat them.

Silver Fox (n.) – Ant. Silver daddy.

Wolf (n.) – A hairy gay man who falls somewhere between a Bear and an Otter. They may not howl at the moon but are aggressive in bed like a wolf.

To conclude, we are the experts when it comes to humor and diversity.
