Pre-PrEP checklist: How can I get PrEP at PULSE Clinic?

- If not, do you have health check-up results from the last 3 months?
- If you already have one, you can get a 12-month supply at PULSE.
- If you do not have recent health check-up results, you can get tested at PULSE and receive a 12-month supply of PrEP.

In 2015, the World Health Organisation recommended that PrEP should be offered as an additional prevention choice for people at increased risk of HIV infection as part of combination HIV prevention approaches, and in 2017 published an implementation tool to guide countries on the introduction and implementation of PrEP.
HIV transmission among men who have sex with men (MSM) has been rising in Singapore as it has in most other countries, indicating the need for additional methods at HIV prevention such as PrEP.
GETTING PrEP IN SINGAPORE

FIRST VISIT
We use a 4th generation HIV test to confirm that you are HIV negative before starting PrEP (either conventional HIV EIA or rapid test kit). If there was a recent high-risk exposure, it is advisable not to rely on a rapid test, as these are less sensitive than conventional EIA.
If the last high-risk exposure was within the last 4 weeks, repeat the HIV test after 4 weeks; also check kidney function, syphilis, Hepatitis B and C viruses, gonorrhoea and chlamydia tests. We will also advise you on how to take PrEP.
Follow-up visits (Advised to visit every 3 Months)
HIV, syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia tests (ideally every 3 months).

What are other options to get PrEP?
If you are considering PrEP, you should discuss this with our doctor, who has experience in HIV or sexual health for more than 6 years, to help decide if PrEP is right for you. You may obtain HIV PrEP in Singapore through the local health system or at our clinic in Tanjong Pagar.- We can prescribe Truvada, which is the original brand name combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine manufactured by Gilead.
